Anselmo Bellosio, 1743- 1793

本資料庫收藏: Violin (1783)

Anselmo Bellosio was probably one of Giorgio Seraphin’s students. After Giorgio died his wife Antonia Montagnana sold Domenica Montagnana’s shop to Anselmo Bellosio, who took over the business in 1779. However, prior to this he had already started making instruments. At the time he was considered an important master luthier. Both Pietro Valentino Novello (1759 - c.1821) and Marc Antonio Cerin (1774-1810) were his pupils. After these two students died, the Venetian school of the 18th cventury ended with them.

During Bellosio’s time, the Itialian luthier industry began to decline, but he ignored this trend and kept following the greatest of traditions, allowing his instruments to evoke the old Venitian sparkle. He did not make very many instruments during his lifetime, and many of the instruments that are believed to have been made by him were actually made by other people that were more famous than him. Bellosio’s most famous instruments are his tiny violas.

Many experts think the instrument’s Bellosio made were made at an earlier time because of their appearance. Up until 1777, many aspects of his instruments are vestiges of how he was influenced by Pietro Guarneri and his teacher Seraphin. The f-holes of his instruments are relatively narrow, and there is a greater distance between the two symbols. The corners are short and fat. He spent a lot of time making the purfling. The varnish is of a very high quality. Therefore, his instruments naturally posses a nobel temperament.
