A third generation Gagliano, Ferdinando Gagliano was a luthier during the 18th century in Naples. He was the eldest son of Nicola Gagliano, and probably studied with his uncle Gennaro. The quality of his finishing techniques differs from instrument to instrument, and typically they look like those made by Gennaro. The lines are quite fluid and in general look beautiful. The F-holes are parallel, perpendicular, and wide. The varnishes he used are quite splendid, but not quite as good as the varnishes his father and uncle used. The quality of his instruments is not consistent. The instruments he made later in life exhibit less accuracy and are of a poorer quality.
