Joseph Kloz (1743-c.1811) was the son of Sebastian Kloz (1696-1775), and a third generation luthier in the Kloz family. Although he was very talented as a luthier, the quality of his work was inconsistent; therefore, he was never as famous as his predecessors. The arches of his instruments were relatively flatter than those of his other family members. Joseph was very fastidious in his selection of wood. His f-holes are smaller and the lines are relatively straight. The scroll volutes are gorgeous. Usually he used yellow or red varnishes.
