Aegidius Kloz II (1733-1805) was a third generation luthier in the Kloz family, and was the son of Sebastian Kloz (1696-1775). Aegidius followed the techniques and style of his father, and many of the violins he made were sold under his father’s name. The arches of the faces are more prominent than those of the backs. In his later years, Aegidius mostly followed the Amati style. His scrolls are exquisite, and the varnishes have an orange hue. The timbre is sweet and approachable. He followed the Stainer style, and used Stainer labels at times, which was something later members of the Kloz family also got accustomed to doing.
