Paul Serdet (1858-1934) was born in Mirecourt and was a pupil of Charles Gaillard. He worked with Derazey Jean Joseph Honore (1794-1883). Between the years 1877 and 1894 he worked in Lyon. In 1894 he established his own studio in Paris and worked there until 1930. He won a gold medal at an exhibtion in Paris in 1900.
Serdet’s instruments followed the models of Stradivari and Guarneri. The exterior is opulent and elegant, coated with a very transparent varnish. Serdet’s instruments are highly praised in France. He holds a significant place in the contemporary Lyon system of violin making.
