Gaetano Pollastri (1886-1960) made instruments together with his older brother Augusto Pollastri. When his brother died in 1927, Gaetano opened his own workshop and also started signing his own name in the instruments he made. The same year his brother died he won an award for one of his instruments. He moved to Piazza San Martino in 1929, and besides living in San Lazzaro di Savena during WWII and in 1960, he lived in Piazza San Martino his entire life. Pollastri not only won many awards for the instruments he made, he was also had a reputation for repairing instruments. He made 165 instruments during his lifetime.
His instruments initially resembled those made by his bother Augusto, but eventually he made some subtle changes, such as making the edges of the instruments thinner and longer, and using red or brownish orange varnishes; however, the varnishes he used are thinner and more easily damaged compared to those of his brother. Gaetano used the same labels as his brother from 1927-1934.
